HOW CAN I APPLY FOR AN APARTMENT?

You can fill out an application online or in our leasing office. If you’re applying online, click “Apply” in the top right-hand corner of our website. This application includes an administration fee; however, we encourage you to call our office for any specials we might be running, to save some extra money! Once approved, you will sign a lease for the specific floor plan style you will be living in, and submit your security deposit. You will also need to have your guarantor fill out the guarantor portion of your application, so don’t forget to provide us with their name and email address at the end of your leasing process, when you are prompted to do so. WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO SUBMIT IF I’M AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT?

To reserve an apartment, you will need to submit the necessary paperwork. Please fill out the application and submit it along with a copy of your ID and proof of income. Passports work as a copy of your ID, and we accept documents such as offer letters, I-20, and J-1 Forms as proof of income.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LIVE AT HELIX?

Rates vary depending on floor plan and time of year. Generally, the sooner you sign a lease, the better chance you have of securing a lower rate. For the most up to date rates and promotions, please contact our friendly staff at the leasing office.

WHAT TYPE OF LEASES DO YOU OFFER?

We offer individual, 12 month leases. This is a great option for you since each person is responsible for their own portion of the rent and not their roommates. The lease begins in August and ends on July. Move-in day depends on the date that you sign your lease, so the earlier you sign, the earlier you get to move-in!

WHAT ARE INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS?

You are not paying rent for each month you live at Helix, rather, you are making installment payments. Your total amount due is split up into 12 equal payments throughout the length of your lease. The lease agreement will not be for an entire calendar year. You will move in early August and move out mid July. This allows time for you to move out, for us to fix the apartment as needed, and to move someone else in for the following year. If you need more time, we may be able to accommodate you, but this is subject to availability and a holdover fee.

WHEN IS RENT DUE?

Rent is due on the 1st of every month with a grace period until the 3rd day of the month. Rent is considered late beginning on the 4th of each month. Please note that late fees will start to accrue beginning on the 4th day.

AM I REQUIRED TO HAVE RENTER'S INSURANCE

We urge you to get renters insurance for losses to personal property or injuries due to theft, fire, water damage, pipe leaks and the like. Additionally, Tenant is required to purchase personal liability insurance with minimum coverage of $100,000. Homestead U must be listed on the policy. DO I NEED A PARENT/GUARDIAN WITH ME TO SIGN A LEASE?

To sign a lease agreement, we do NOT need your parent or guardian present. Your parent or guardian will need to sign a guarantor form during the application process and we will take care of sending all of that information to them if you are signing in person or you can send that to them digitally after you have completed your online lease.

WHEN IS GUARANTOR PAPERWORK DUE?

We require that all paperwork including Guarantor documents be returned back to the leasing office no later than 72 hours after submitting the security deposit.

WHAT FURNITURE ITEMS ARE INCLUDED WITH MY APARTMENT?

Your unit will come fully furnished with a brand new furniture package: couch, chair, entertainment stand, side table, coffee table, bar stools, full size bed, night stand, desk, desk chair, and dresser. Each bedroom also comes with a lock and your own bathroom.

WHAT APPLIANCES ARE INCLUDED WITH MY APARTMENT?

Each apartment is furnished with full-size kitchen appliances (refrigerator, range/oven, dishwasher and microwave) and each unit will also have a washer/dryer.

CAN I CHOOSE MY ROOMMATES?

Of course! When you fill out your application, our Helix team member will show you where to put this information or if you are completing an online application, you will be prompted to fill out their name(s) during your leasing process. Simply write the name of your future roomie(s) in the designated spot and we’ll make sure you are placed together.

WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE ROOMMATES?

No worries, we can help! If you are filling out an application online, please select “yes” when you are asked if you will need roommate matching. When you fill out your lease agreement in person, you will also be given a resident profile card which includes a questionnaire about your lifestyle and preferences. If you need to be matched with a roomie, we will use this information to find you roommates with similar interests! We take roommate matching very seriously and spend a lot of time trying to make sure that we find just the right fit.

DO YOU ALLOW PETS AT THE PROPERTY?

Yes! Friendly dogs and cats that fall within Helix’s size and weight limits are welcome. There is a non-refundable pet fee and monthly pet rent. If you plan on bringing your furry friend, you must let the Helix team know, so that you have them registered appropriately.

IS THERE PARKING ON SITE?

Yes, parking is free for all registered Helix residents. We also have premier reserved parking available at an additional charge a month, but spots are limited! Contact us today for more details.

CAN I CANCEL THE LEASE?

Helix Starkville does not allow lease cancellation, however subleasing is an option. It is the leasee’s responsibility to find someone to sublease his or her room, and pay the sublease fee. Subleasers must go through the same qualification process as new residents.
