For the residents at Helix Starkville, there is no shortage of exciting events to attend this summer. Starkville Community Theatre’s (SCT)’s 18th annual summer musical ‘Unplugged 2’ features 23 talented musicians and singers who are set to light up the Starkville stage with their vibrant voices and sensational sounds. The revue is directed by Carole Sorenson, who is also a featured pianist at the event. Other featured musicians include drummers Chuck Schimpf and Tommie Rice, guitarists Drew Dieckmann, John Brocato, and Marcus Vowell, bassist Jim Beaty, mandolin/banjoist Jamie Dyer, and violinist Ania Dyer.
Just like the theater’s original staging of Unplugged, this show promises to get your toes tapping and your feet stomping with its multi-genre sounds. Based on MTV’s long-running show by the same name, STC’s first production in 2012 incorporated audience participation into the mix. This year’s show promises even more fun sing-alongs, as theater-goers and performers alike get to enjoy an interactive experience that’s sure to liven up the night.
The musical revue runs from July 14th-15th and 21st-23rd, with showtimes starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25 each and are used to offset the cost of the many activities, productions, youth theater classes, and workshops that SCT hosts to benefit Starkville students and the surrounding community. You can contact the playhouse at (662) 323-6855, or stop by the box office at 108 East Main St. between 1pm-3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to purchase yours today.
In addition to the July fundraiser, SCT stages 4 productions every season with 9 shows apiece. The current year’s cast won 3 awards at the Mississippi Theatre Association Festival, so be sure to check their website for the latest news on their 2016-2017 productions!
